The 28th Annual Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards were held last night at Eden Park. Eru Paranihi hosted an excellent evening acknowledging some of the top young sportspeople across the greater Auckland area. Commonwealth weightlifting gold medalist David Liti and his coach Tina Ball entertained guests and finalists as guest speakers. Girls Underwater Hockey winner, Mackenzie Buick (Mahurangi College) delivered a great speech on behalf of all the finalists. Triathlete crowned junior sportsman of the year twice

Eastern Courier: Success is coming thick and fast for a East Auckland triathlete. In September, 17-year-old Daniel Whitburn won his under-19 division at the ITU World Triathlon Age Group Championships in the Netherlands. The Farm Cove local has now been crowned Young Sportsman of the Year at the College Sports Auckland Awards, and only days later he received the Counties Manukau Junior Sportsman of the Year prize. Award tops off great year for Kurtis

The Post – Franklin & North Waikato: Christmas came early this year for Waiuku College student Kurtis Shuker. Earlier last month, Kurtis received notice that he’d been named a finalist in the 27th Annual Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards. Judith Coe, Sports Coordinator at Waiuku College, had nominated Kurtis for his achievements in orienteering, which included thrashing the Australian field at the 2017 Australian Schools’ Orienteering Championships. College Sport Media: Daniel Whitburn loves putting his body through the wringer. The College Sport Auckland Young Sportsman of the Year is an International Triathlon champion and intends taking up Ironman in the near future.
