Young Sports Person of the Year Awards 2023

Ritorya Tamilo from Baradene College of the Sacred Heart won the Young Sportswoman of the Year for Basketball and Jacob Avery from Sacred Heart College winning the Young Sportsman of the Year for Rowing at the Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards. The event was held at Eden Park with just over six hundred people in attendance. Distance Running Series Concludes with Road Race The College Sport Distance Running series concluded with the Road Race Championships at Bruce Pulman Park, Takanini on Tuesday 15th August. Over three hundred and fifty students entered from thirty-six schools competing in their respective grades to from Junior Girls to Senior Boys.  The largest grade was the Intermediate Boys with just over one hundred competitors. Auckland and Takapuna retain Squash titles

Auckland Grammar and Takapuna Grammar retained their Division 1 Boys and Girls Squash Team titles. In the Girls Section Takapuna Grammar defeated Westlake Girls in the final, four matches to one and in the Boys Section Auckland Grammar defeated Takapuna Grammar in a thrilling tie, three matches to two. Ultimate Senior Indoor Champs

Discs were flying across the Bruce Pulman Arena on Sunday as over 150 students took to the courts at the 2023 AKSS Indoor Ultimate Championships (Open Division).  Seventeen teams with various levels of experience entered the competition and the early rounds saw some big margins as teams found their level in the event.   However, by the quarter finals the top teams were fiercely competitive, with the Pakuranga College v Epsom Girls Grammar School game going to overtime before EGGS scored the game-winner.  The Epsom Girls Grammar team deserve a…

Cross Country Champs

Over four hundred and fifty competitors took part in the Auckland Cross Country Championships recently at Lloyd Elsmore Park. Forty-one schools were represented across the six grades with the largest field being the Intermediate Boys with over one hundred and twenty participants. Th course provided athletes with numerous challenges, one being the heavy conditions under foot.  Special thanks to the team at Pakuranga Athletics Club for providing the venue and course management plus use of the clubhouse for participants. The Auckland Secondary School Weightlifting Championships were held recently at the Kolmar Recreation Centre, Papatoetoe. Four sessions were held throughout the day with fifty-three students competing in their respective categories. Over five hundred and fifty competitors from forty-three schools attended the recent two cross-country zone events. The North West Zone was held at Moire Park, Massey and the Central South and Eastern Zone at Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga.  Both courses provided athletes with numerous challenges, one being the heavy conditions under foot.
