Two Westlake volleyballers preparing for test series against Australia

College Sport Media: Westlake Girls’ High School defended their NZSS Senior Girls Volleyball crown earlier this year. Following that success, two of their students, Tam Otene and Kaila Ru have been selected to represent the Senior New Zealand Women’s team. The year 13 Westlake GHS pair will join their New Zealand teammates for the three-match international series against Australia on 5-7 June in Lower Hutt, Porirua and Wellington. National secondary school volleyball title for Westlake Girls

Stuff: Westlake Girls’ High School are the national secondary school girls volleyball champions after winning the national tournament at the Arena in Palmerston North last week. Westlake beat Otumoetai College, of Tauranga, 3-1 in the girls’ final on Friday afternoon. The two sides were level 1-all after the first two sets, but Westlake won the next two to seal the win. Westlake, who won all three pool games 3-0, beat Trident High School, of Whakatane, 3-0 in the semifinal and Aorere College, of Auckland, 3-1 in the quarterfinal. Click here to read the full... Volleyballers put Aorere College on the map at nationals

Manukau Courier: Aorere College and De La Salle College left their mark on the New Zealand secondary school volleyball championships in Palmerston North earlier this month. Aorere, led by captain Mary Masoe, came fourth in the premier girls’ while De La Salle, led by Bernardo Tonumaipe’a, came fifth in premier boys. New Zealand Herald: Auckland champions Westlake Girls’ High School became the national champions at the 50th Secondary Schools Volleyball Championships in Palmerston North yesterday when they overcame the top Bay of Plenty team Otumoetai College in straight sets. The Junior A Boys Volleyball squad, coached by teacher Craig Ashton, played – and won – all 35 games of their season.
