Aquathon Championships 2023

A sunny day welcomed over 220 students from 23 Schools to Saint Kentigern College for the Aquathon Championships. Athletes competed in their respective age groups of Juniors Intermediates and Seniors as individuals or part of a team.  This year saw sixty-two compete. Tennis Championships Decided

It was a busy week for secondary school tennis players with the Champ of Champs Tournament and the A1 and A2 finals being played at the Scarbro Tennis Centre. One hundred and twenty individuals and fifty-three doubles teams took part in the Champ of Champs Tennis Tournament over two days with students competing in junior, intermediate, and senior doubles and singles matches.  The Senior Boys singles title was won by Chan Min from Rangitoto College and Renee Zhang from Kings College winning the Senior Girls title for the second year…

Lawn Bowls Pairs Championships

Fifty-two teams from eleven schools entered the Auckland Cup Secondary School Pairs held at the Mt Eden Bowing Club. The event was organised by Auckland Bowls where lunch was provided in a friendly and fun environment for participants.  Three greens were in use throughout the day with teams playing five, forty-minute rounds. The competition was won by the pairing from Kings College with Kelston Boys High School claiming second. Football and Cycling Claim Top Awards

Emily Clegg from Mt Albert Grammar School won the Young Sportswoman of the Year for Football and Edward Pawson from Auckland Grammar School winning the Young Sportsman of the Year for Cycling at the Young Sportsperson of the Year Awards. The event was held at Eden Park with just under six hundred people in attendance. The Awards have been held since 1991 to celebrate the outstanding sporting achievements of Auckland secondary school students. Double Volleyball Gold for Rangitoto College

The Junior Volleyball Champs were held over three days at Bruce Pulman Arena involving eighty four teams from forty six  schools. Rangitoto College took out both the boys and  girls titles, the boys defeating Manurewa and the girls defeating Mangere College in their respective finals. Triple the Fun

Eleven junior teams competed in the inaugural Have-A-Go Triples Bowls Competition held at the Takapuna Bowing Club. The event was organised by staff and volunteers at the Takapuna Bowling Club where they provided coaching, competition and lunch in a fun environment. Students competed over three rounds during the day with Glenfield College claiming first place from Auckland Girls Grammar in second and Rangitoto College third. A special mention to Rangitoto College who had nine teams competing at the event.

Wind Foiling makes its Debut at Fleet Racing Regatta

64 boats from 24 schools competed in the 71st Auckland Fleet Racing Regatta at the Wakatere Boating Club, Narrow Neck Beach on Friday 16 September. Conditions were icy cold, but superb for fast-paced racing, and the crews did not disappoint. Nine classes were represented, with Wind Foiling (IQ Foil) making its debut at the regatta. Football Knockout Cup Finals

Sacred Heart’s 1st XI added the Senior Grade Knockout Cup trophy to their CSA Premier title after defeating a valiant Macleans College 1st XI in the Knockout Cup final at Bill McKinlay Park last Friday. The final was played at a tremendous pace, with the deciding goal being a penalty within the closing moments of the contest.
