The waters around Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC) in Orakei were alive with the exhilarating sights and sounds of competitive yachting from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd March. The prestigious Auckland Cup, open to teams from both North and South of the bridge within the Auckland region, drew in 16 schools and 21 teams (over 130 athletes!) for three days of full-on races. Wind Foiling makes its Debut at Fleet Racing Regatta

64 boats from 24 schools competed in the 71st Auckland Fleet Racing Regatta at the Wakatere Boating Club, Narrow Neck Beach on Friday 16 September. Conditions were icy cold, but superb for fast-paced racing, and the crews did not disappoint. Nine classes were represented, with Wind Foiling (IQ Foil) making its debut at the regatta. Westlake Boys take out Fleet Racing Regatta

Westlake Boys High School took out the 67th annual College Sport Auckland Fleet Racing Regatta at the Wakatere Boating Club yesterday but it proved a challenging event due to a lack of wind. There was no racing at all on Monday with the wind refusing to fill in but three races were sailed in all fleets yesterday with a maximum of five knots. Young Kiwi pair win world Feva title despite painful injury

Yachting New Zealand: Eli Liefting (Selwyn College) and Rose Dickson (King’s College) won the RS Feva world championships in the Netherlands, despite the fact Dickson sailed the final two days with fractured fingers. The pair started the final day one point behind the British combination of Henry and Rupert Jameson but took pole position when they won the first race of the day. Young sailor joins New Zealand yachting’s biggest names after national title win

AucklandNOW: Sacred Heart College student Sebastian Lardies is on course to be the country’s next America’s Cup helmsman. The 17-year-old was crowned New Zealand’s most recent national champion in yachtings 29er class earlier this month. However, winning the national title wasn’t what surprised Lardies most. A quick glance at the trophy showed the name of Team New Zealand  America’s Cup trimmer and cyclor and 2016 Olympic gold medallist Blair Tuke.
