Yachting Teams Racing | 2024 Auckland Team Racing Cup

The waters around Royal Akarana Yacht Club (RAYC) in Orakei were alive with the exhilarating sights and sounds of competitive yachting from Wednesday 20th to Friday 22nd March. The prestigious Auckland Cup, open to teams from both North and South of the bridge within the Auckland region, drew in 16 schools and 21 teams (over 130 athletes!) for three days of full-on races.

In collaboration with College Sport and the New Zealand Team Sailing Association, the Auckland Cup showcased the talent and teamwork of young sailors from across the region. The event not only provided a platform for friendly rivalry but also fostered sportsmanship and camaraderie among participants.

The participating schools included Auckland Grammar School, Baradene College of the Sacred Heart, Botany Downs Secondary College, Diocesan School for Girls, Glendowie College, King’s College, Long Bay College, Macleans College, Sacred Heart College (Auckland), Saint Kentigern College, Selwyn College, Waiheke High School, Wentworth College, Western Springs College, Westlake Boys High School, and Westlake Girls High School.

With 21 teams vying for victory, each race was a display of skill, strategy, and sheer determination.

As the final stage concluded on the final day of racing, the winners emerged, showcasing their prowess in the competitive arena. The Auckland Cup not only celebrated excellence in yachting but also promoted the values of sportsmanship, teamwork, and dedication that are central to the sailing community.

3rd Place: Auckland Grammar Blue

👏 Silver Fleet:

1st Place: Botany Downs
2nd Place: Long Bay
3rd Place: Macleans Blue
