New teams taste success at NZSS Junior Badminton Championships
The first ever New Zealand Secondary School Junior Badminton Championships were held late-November in Auckland. For six Auckland schools, this was their first time attending a NZSS Badminton event, and two of them – ACG Parnell College and Botany Downs Secondary College – headed home as national champions. In September, 17-year-old Daniel Whitburn won his under-19 division at the ITU World Triathlon Age Group Championships in the Netherlands. The Farm Cove local has now been crowned Young Sportsman of the Year at the College Sports Auckland Awards, and only days later he received the Counties Manukau Junior Sportsman of the Year prize.
