From tears to triumph: Schoolgirl netballer Grace Nweke’s rapid rise to top


Grace Nweke cried after matches at her first age-group representative netball tournament in 2015.

Four years on, the Auckland schoolgirl, who turned 17 on February 7, is the rising star of New Zealand netball. The Year 13 Avondale College student, who grew up idolising the finest goal shoot in history, Irene van Dyk, is the most exciting New Zealand netball prospect in many years.

Nweke, pronounced ‘Weke’, has made some start to her career in the elite ranks with the Northern Mystics in the national premiership.
