Manurewa High leads Counties Manukau charge at junior volleyball championships

Manurewa High School are leading the Counties Manukau charge at the North Island Junior Secondary School Volleyball Championships in Papakura this week.

They have four teams among the 48 boys’ and 48 girls’ teams competing in the four day tournament which tips off at the Pulman Park Arena on Tuesday. Others have schools have been limited to one or two.

Manurewa High School sports coordinator Maggie Silva says they couldn’t afford to miss the opportunity.

“We’re taking advantage of the tournament being held so close to home. We’ve have a boys’ and a girls’ team in the premiers and two development teams. The experience will be great for our development players.

“Volleyball is a popular sport at Manurewa High and we would have easily fielded another team.”
