High-achieving student earns Japanese university scholarship

Eastern Courier:

Pakuranga College Year 12 student Kazuma Nakano has recently been admitted to the University of Tokyo on a full scholarship.

The teenager is “honestly privileged” about receiving the scholarship because it’s awarded to up to 10 students worldwide, and will cover the admission fee, tuition, and living expenses for up to four consecutive years.

“Getting admitted to the University of Tokyo is a challenge on it’s own, so I wasn’t expecting it,” Kazuma says.

A baseball tour to Arizona in the United States last October and a Model United Nations Security Council diplomacy contest in Sydney in December were instrumental for the scholarship, he says.

“I’m most grateful for the community’s support to get me to these events.”
