Four records broken at first athletics zone meet

The Central Western Zone Athletics meet was held yesterday at Trusts Arena in Henderson.

In hot and sunny conditions, four College Sport Auckland records were broken throughout the day.

One of the first field events of the day was the Intermediate Boys High Jump. Rosmini College student Jayden Williamson was unable to compete at the North Harbour Zone meet, so he entered the Central Western Zone where he cleared 2.00m to break the College Sport Auckland record. The Intermediate Boys High Jump record of 1.95m was set in 2008 by Nicholas Gerrard (Massey High School).

Percy Maka from Avondale College broke not one, but two College Sport Auckland records. Percy smashed the Junior Boys Discus record by almost two meters, throwing 56.02m. The previous record (53.22m) was set 18 years ago by Jordan Vandermade (Saint Kentigern College). Percy then went on the break Jacko Gill’s 2008 Intermediate Boys Shot Put record (15.32m), sending the shot put 15.54m.

The Intermediate Boys 4 x 100m relay team from Auckland Grammar School managed to break their own school’s record with a time of 43.50sec.
