Onewhero netballer chosen for development team

The Post:

Sixteen year old Olivia Carey from Pukekawa loves her sport. She plays netball and basketball, and while basketball is the preference, it’s netball that’s seen her take off.

She has played netball since the age of seven, when she was old enough to start. “I’ve been playing since day one,” she said. This year she captained her Onewhero Area School’s top netball team. They went to the Upper North Island Secondary School (UNISS) competition in September. Their team was in the lowest grade, but it was still a tough competition. “We watched the A-grade finals and then left to travel home,” she said.

While watching a livestream of the prize giving, Olivia found out she had been selected for the 2017 UNISS tournament team for her pool grade. “I didn’t feel so good about how we played at UNISS, but I was overwhelmed to be selected for the tournament team afterwards. My team was proud of me and supported me,” she said.
