Grant formed the first girls team at Pukekohe High School in 1981 and paved the way for a successful and rewarding career in secondary school sport. He was involved in assisting Avondale College and College Sport Auckland in organising football tournaments for secondary school girls before the NZSS Girls Football Association was established. Grant, being the main driving force in its establishment, became the first Chairperson from 1991 to 2006 and has been on the National Executive from 1991 to the current day.
In 2009, NZSS Girls Football Association acknowledged his efforts by naming a national satellite tournament in his honour. Grant’s involvement and commitment to secondary school girls’ football was acknowledged with him being awarded life member status in 2015.
