Southern Cross eye showdown with St Paul’s

Stuff:

Southern Cross Campus face St Paul’s College for a place in College Rugby League’s premiership grand final on Wednesday.

The match will be played at the home of the defending premiers in Grey Lynn with the winner going on to face Kelston Boys’ High School in the grand final next week.

Southern Cross, the national premiers, cruised into the semi final with a five-tries-to-two, 28-10 win over Mt Albert Grammar School in a show down between the third and fourth seeds in Mangere last Wednesday.

Kelston beat defending champions St Paul’s 10-4 in the major semi final.

Coach Rod Ratu says the prospect of playing for the Auckland premiership, something Southern Cross hasn’t won before, excites his team.

Yet he is anxious because many of his players were involved in semi finals for their club on Saturday. He says the players will be giving their all for their clubs so there’s a good chance that they’ll be bruised and exhausted.
