Diocesan School for Girls win back-to-back Maadi titles

AucklandNOW:

Auckland’s Diocesan School for Girls has picked up back-to-back Maadi titles, becoming the first North Island female crew in 27 years to do so.

Dio claimed the Levin 75th Jubilee Cup – awarded to the winners of the under-18 eight 2000 metre race – at Lake Karapiro on Saturday, securing the title by three quarters of a boat length.

They were behind for most of the race before they kicked at the 500m mark and surged ahead of Hamilton’s St Paul’s Collegiate and Christchurchs’ St Margaret’s College.

Dio head of rowing Rachel Williams said she kept her nerves together for most of the race but excitement took over in final stages.
