Manukau Courier:
Southern Cross Campus are into the finals of the national secondary school rugby league championships in Papakura.
They beat Auckland champions St Paul’s College 22-16 in their semi final this morning and will defend the title they won last year against Kelston Boys’ High School at Bruce Pulman Park at 12.50pm tomorrow.
Kelston held of St Thomas of Canterbury College 10-6 in the other semi final.
The Southern Cross win avenges the 16-6 loss to St Paul’s in the semi final of the Auckland championship almost four weeks ago to the day.
Coach Rod Ratu says his players played to expectations.
“The boys were well rested and their recovery from the round robin games was excellent. They performed as expected. They weren’t as loaded or exhausted as they were going into the Auckland final two days after playing club finals. We’re peaking at the right time.”
