OHS Sport ‘Sporting Participation and Excellence’. Sport is a vital part of life at Onehunga High School. Our vision is ‘Sporting Participation and Excellence’. We develop culture, tradition and success through encouragement, commitment, discipline and personal responsibility. Onehunga High School has a rich tradition of sporting achievement and participation across a number of sports in Auckland, regional and national competitions. Every student at Onehunga High School has the opportunity to get involved in one or more of the many sports offered. These include summer and winter sports, and both individual and team sports. Sport can help students develop skills such as leadership, discipline, teamwork and commitment. In addition to the formal inter-school competitions that teams compete in, the school offers in-school sporting events such as cross country and athletics days and inter-class lunchtime sports. Social sport competitions outside of school hours are also a way for students to involve themselves in non-competitive sport It is our intention to encourage as many students as possible to get involved in playing sports for Onehunga High School. Our aim every year is to get 50% of the school playing summer & winter sport. Achieving this will result in having our own pool of talented athletes to continue our success and add to our strong traditions and sporting culture. In order to maintain high standards in our sports program and develop our students on and off the field in their chosen sport the following must be agreed to as part of your coaching position. FIRST TEAM NETBALL COACH Job Description - Develop your players as individuals and as a team to a premier level while upholding the values of Onehunga High School Sport Responsible to: -Director of Code, then Director of Sport -Qualifications -You need a sound working knowledge of your sport and passion for equipping young athletes to a premier level. -Coaching badges are not essential but it is expected that all Coaches will attend professional development opportunities when offered by the school. -Vital Functions -Set a good culture for your team -Coach your team to play at the highest level possible -Develop physical conditioning and skill management of players -Make sure all team members have paid their fees and attendance is at 85%. In Season: - Under the guidance of your Director of Code, hold trials and select a squad and encourage competition for places within the team - Appoint a Captain and Vice-Captain early in the season and encourage team cooperation with these people. - Plan training sessions to coincide with important matches and events. - Communicate clearly and regularly the team’s cancellations, game and practices times - Ensure correct sports uniform is worn at all times - Preferences for playing positions will be given to reliable players over non-reliable players - Take responsibility for your supporters and ensure their support is positive - All students are to be training in gym gear NOT school clothing. - Make sure all gear is accounted for, or students will cover the cost to replace. COACH / MANAGER CODE OF CONDUCT
  • Be reasonable in your demands on their energy and time
  • Teach them that the rules of the game are mutual agreements which no one should evade or break
  • Encourage the players to have fun and enjoy the game. Never ridicule or yell at them for making mistakes or losing a game
  • Ensure that equipment and facilities are appropriate to the age and ability of the players
  • The scheduling and length of practice times and games should take into consideration the maturity level of  the players
  • Develop team respect for the ability of opponents, as well as for the judgement of officials and the opposing coach
  • Follow the advice of a doctor in determining when an injured player is ready to play again
  • All players need a coach they can respect
  • Be generous with your praise when it is deserved and set a good example
  • Make a personal commitment to keep yourself informed on sound coaching principles and the principles of growth and development of adolescent athletes.

  • Practices must be well planned and have aims or goals. Fitness, skills, tactics, bonding should be developed at a training session.

  • Attend all practices and games
  • Sound knowledge of the game
  • A positive attitude
  • The ability to instill the right attitude in the players
  • Effective planning and organizational skills
  • Well planned training sessions with a variety of activities
  • Ability to detect problem areas and correct these quickly and effectively
  • Flexibility with regards to the resources available to them
  • To act as a role model for the players
  • To be fair and consistent with team decisions
  • Belief in their own ability in order that they can help to motivate players
