The opportunity

Kristin School is a co-educational, non-denominational, independent school on Auckland’s North Shore. It provides education for more than 1800 students from Early Learning to Year 13, with dual pathways through NCEA and the International Baccalaureate programme.

We are seeking a part-time Assistant Basketball Coach to support our male and female teams across years 7-13. The successful applicant will be responsible for providing technical training, strategic planning, and mentorship to improve their players’ performance. You will liaise with team members, coaches, and managers to organise training sessions and games.

Job Responsibilities

– Develop and implement strategies for training and skills improvement
– Attend games and tournaments, coordinating and instructing players during practices and games
– Maintain communication with players, managers and other coaches to ensure a positive team environment
– Foster sportsmanship, teamwork, and general character-building in players
– Monitor player performance and identify key areas of improvement
– Work alongside the Head of Basketball and other coaches to implement the holistic development of our basketball programme
– Assist in the development of our student coaches
– Attend coaches’ meetings and be willing to attend coach development sessions.

Important Skills

This role requires the applicant to have:
– Expertise in basketball techniques, tactics, and rules
– Proven success in working with students
– Strong leadership and communication skills
– Experience coaching or playing at a high level
– Ability to work flexible hours and travel as needed
– Desire to work with students in a school environment
– Current First Aid Certificate (or willing to attend first aid training provided by the school)

Coach availability
Preseason – commence early February
Intermediate season: All year
Secondary School Season – Term 1, 2 and 3 (February – September)

Coaching opportunities available:
Games: Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (After School)
Practice: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday (Before and After School)

What we offer

This role provides the opportunity to join a supportive and welcoming school community with over 25 basketball teams and three impressive court facilities. The coach will also receive support from an experienced coaching team to further their development.
