Overend powers to sprint gold double

Otago Daily Times: Dominic Overend’s class won out — but he had to work to claim the double. The 16-year-old Youth Olympian entered the national secondary school athletics championships as the hot favourite in both the senior boys 100m and 200m. He barely broke a sweat as he cruised through the preliminary stages in both events at the Caledonian Ground. However, the Auckland Grammar School runner found himself chasing King’s College’s Mogammad Smith in the final of the 100m. A slow start had Overend behind, and it took him to…

Dominic Overend – going faster, longer

College Sport Media: “My love of the 200 has drawn me back towards it. I’ve only ran it twice competitively in the last year, but my world ranking is better in the 200 metres than it is the 100 metres,” Dominic Overend explains of his sudden focus on 200 metres sprinting. Last year an overgrown bone in the right heel led to surgery and a temporary abandonment of the 200 metres following difficulty turning around the bend.
