On Thursday 29th August 2024, we saw another spectacular night of Hockey finals to wrap up the girl’s hockey season.
The A1 Greater Auckland Hockey final kicked off the finals matches at LEP. The game was contested between Mahurangi College and St Cuthbert’s College. This was a tightly contested match, but St Cuthbert’s managed to score early and hold on for most of the game. In the dying minutes of the match, Mahurangi scored off a PC to tie the game and send it to a Penalty Shootout. The penalty shootout was a nailbiter, ending in 3-3, and taking the game to Sudden Death. Mahurangi were able to find the back of the goal and grab the A1 Girls Hockey title for 2024.
The last game of the evening was the Premier Girls Final hosted at LEP between King’s College and St Cuthbert’s College. It was fantastic to see that despite the weather, there were many supporters from both schools. It was a hard-fought battle between both schools with St Cuthbert’s being the first to put points on the leaderboard. Kings were able to score in the 3rd Quarter bringing the score to 2-1, the final score of the game. It was a great game of hockey from both teams, but St Cuthbert’s were able to hold on to secure the Premier Girls Hockey title for 2024.
A huge congratulations to all teams who participated in the 2024 hockey season. It is great to see so many students participating in the sport and the new level of talent that arises each year. We hope that all the students have enjoyed their season!
